Get ready for an exciting in-depth study and physical participation in the world of circus arts. A major component of the course will be to look at circus from the inside out, by giving students hands-on experience. The course will include workshops in clowning, tumbling, trapeze, acrobatics and aerial apparatus (silks, web, hammock, swing set, hoop). Students will learn how circus performance draws on all types of skills including creativity, physicality, and team work. The entire experience will culminate in Oakwood’s very own “Cirque d’Oakwood,” a circus show featuring students’ newly developed skills. Students will learn about what it’s like behind-the-scenes of a large-scale working circus and meet circus directors, teachers, and performers who will talk about why they were drawn to the circus and discuss circus’ role in society today.
This course will be co-taught by professional circus instructors along with Oakwood Faculty
